Aniska

author

David Shterenberg

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

Like other peasant images in the plot portraits of the master, the whole appearance of the girl is almost monumental. She looks seriously, thoughtfully, in an adult way, hands clasped on her stomach. The entire composition with a background in the form of a meager still life (unpainted wooden table, half a loaf of brown bread on a simple white dish) tells you about the modesty of life. The artist used two main positions in the picture: Aniska is depicted strictly frontally, and the viewer sees objects in focus “top view”. The sharp object of the table emphasizes the main thing – precious bread.
