Still life (vase with cherries)

author

Aleksandra Ekster

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: Rostov-Yaroslavl Museum of Architecture and Art (Russia).

To express the avant-garde of her worldview, the artist often painted still lifes, considering this genre very picturesque. Depicting objects, an artist has enough opportunities to convey the volume of objects, bright combinations of palette colours, the play of chiaroscuro, deep shadows or glare. The colour makes the viewer smell and taste the fruit, while the form helps you feel their elasticity and juiciness. Glass provides an opportunity to see the refraction of objects, etc. In a still life with cherries, Ekster resorted to an innovative manner of presenting familiar things: for example, berries are depicted as if floating in the air.
