Still life. Flowers

author

Roger Eliot Fry

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Tate Modern Gallery, London (the UK).

In the composition of the fantasy oriental still life, the artist contrasts the spiky sheets of artichokes, aggressively directed to the sides, with elegant falling and ascending feathers of the tail of the golden pheasant. The bird’s feathers form a certain diagonal and become a part of the background for the vase and flowers. The background is made using the “blur” technology and is a picture in hot colours on a wall. The significant paint thickness, close to pastoseness, gives a characteristic texture to the depicted objects.
