Spring. Garden Cleaning

author

Natalia Goncharova

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: Tate Modern Gallery, London (the UK).

The style of this demonstrates that the artist was fond of folk art and followed her conviction to paint simple plots in a simple art style. She depicted a scene of peasant work – planting flowers and other plants from pots into the ground. Despite the predominance of blue, gray and lilac colours that convey the coolness and purity of air, the work exudes optimism and warmth. Conventionally depicted flowering branches of trees and huge pink flowers that are higher than workers make the canvas decorative. The author gave the painting to the gallery in the last years of her life, not wanting to sell the work that reminded her of the happy time when she lived in a family estate near Kaluga.
