This work confirms the words of the critic, who characterized Czech Surrealism as “a mixture of revolutionary emanation and passive sleepwalking.” The canvas of romantic mood is based on the ideas of Z. Freud about the subconscious. To the surprise, Toyen uses an absolutely desert landscape in the composition in order to make it more expressive and mysterious, while placing a figure floating above the ground with her back to the viewer. At the same time, the back itself, like other parts of the girl’s body, is absent, but implied. Such “romantic anarchism”, as defined by an art expert, is easily understood and always attracts attention.
