author

Marie Toyen (Maria Cerminova)

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

A surrealistic work in a concise, even ascetic, color gamma was created in the period when the creative union of Toyen and Styrsky actively worked in the Czech Republic, having organized a community of Surrealists in the capital of the country. That year was very productive for Cerminova, because her paintings were included in the exhibition of “degenerative art” that was held in different cities. In this painting, she speaks bitterly and ironically about the situation in Europe. In 2014, this work became one of two the most expensive paintings of the artist – it was sold to a private collection for 17 million crowns.
