Skull

author

Jean-Michel Basquiat

description

Mediums: acrylic, crayon, canvas.
Location: Broad, Los Angeles, CA, US.

One of Basquiat’s favorite books was “Gray’s Anatomy”. He used it to created this painting. The image is filled with abstract lines and shapes. It is hard to tell whether the author wanted to paint a skull or a head, as a skull does not have eyes and a nose. It seems like Basquiat was trying to express someone’s worries or self-destruction, as the face looks down, its eyes filled with unhidden pain.
