description

The Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).

Enamel, aluminum.

This work became a transitional phase from minimalism, which focuses on the form of the subject, to conceptual art, which implies the existence of a specific idea, on which the whole composition is based. Sol LeWitt was inspired by the studies of photographer Eadweard Muybridge, which helped him learn the nature of the movement. Large and small, closed and open, high and low cubes, placed on a lattice base, form a certain dynamic system that resembles a big city filmed from a bird’s eye view. According to the author, before looking at his works, the viewer should familiarize himself with the description of the work, which allows you to understand its essence.
