Self-portrait

author

Sergey Konenkov

description

Mediums: marble.
Location: the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

The artist sculpted his bust at the age of 80. The famous Konenkov’s self-portrait, for which he was awarded the state prize in 1957, exists in several versions. A bronze copy is mounted on the grave of the sculptor. The viewer can see a creative man with inspirational thoughts and fantasy. His head is proudly raised; he is watching far, and his hair flutters. Everything speaks of the scope and significance of the creator. The author commented, “I was thinking not only about the similarities; first of all, I wanted to talk about my attitude to work and art, to show my aspiration for the future, into the realm of truth and justice”.
