Return from space

author

Tullio Crali

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

The exploration of outer space by a man in the 1960s opened up new horizons and themes for the artist’s works. Crali, who was trying to revive aerial painting in the post-war period, issued the manifesto “Orbital Art”, which became the last manifesto of Futurism. In the paintings of that period, the artist expressed his admiration for the incredible capabilities of modern rockets and the exploits of heroes-cosmonauts. The stylistics and expressive means of “Return from Space”, as well as other works on this topic, are practically no different from paintings on airplanes; only the role of the protagonist instead of the pilot is performed by the astronaut.
