description

Mediums: tempera, canvas.
Location: The Tate Modern Gallery, London (the UK).

The work combines two genres – still life and landscape. Ancient and modern marine tools and attributes are compositionally located in the middle of the picture and stand out against the blue stripes of the open sea and high sky. The theme reflects the personal passion of the artist (he collected marine equipment and objects), when the objects depicted are given a sense of mystery, their value and significance are emphasized, which makes the whole composition look like a monument. The clarity with which the master depicted each subject is comparable to the “metaphysics” of Italian artist G. de Chirico.
