Psalm 69

author

Ernst Fuchs

description

Mediums: oil, tempera, canvas.
Location: The Ernst Fuchs Museum, Vienna (Austria).

The artist created hundreds of paintings, in the plots of which he used religious themes directly or in hints. The culmination was his triptych “Secrets of the Holy Rosary” for the Vienna Catholic Church in Hetzendorf. The priest utters the pathetic psalm in the chaos of war. His magnificent, though fragile tent in the very center of the picture, cannot be destroyed either by the flames around the conflagration or by the falling plane, because his speech is listened to and protected by the Godly Spirit. He is depicted in the iconographic tradition hovering with outstretched arms.
