Portrait of Vsevolod Emilievich Meyerhold

author

Aleksandr Golovin

description

Mediums: wood, tempera.
Location: St. Petersburg State Central Museum of Musical Culture named after M. Glinki (Russia).

Throughout his creative career, Golovin not only worked as a theater decorator but also was engaged in easel painting. It is not doubt true that these areas of his art “nourished” each other. The theater not only led his painting to the bright decorative beginning, but also gave themes for still lifes and portraits. Among the latter, the portrait of his friend and colleague V. Meyerhold is very interesting. The 43-year-old ingenious director is depicted sitting at the mirror in red fez and among theatrical draperies. Light clothes allow you to focus on the large expressive features of the dark face. The most expressive are his attentive blue eyes.
