The artist depicted actress Valentina Motyleva, who became the second official wife of Annenkov in Paris, many times. This is one of the first nu paintings he created when they first met. The 22-year-old model is fully naked in stockings – this was Annenkov’s style. Reclining dramatic actress is surrounded by decor – embroidered pillows, lace. The artist used this technique all the time, as well as skillfully inserted “still-life” objects into the picture of the portrait genre — in this case, a glass and a spoon are depicted on a saucer.
