Persian Woman

author

Alexander Nikolaevich Volkov

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the Museum of Oriental Art, Moscow (Russia).

The early painting of A. Volkov is characterized by a predominance of the style of art nouveau; in particular, there are reminiscences of the “crystalline” painting of Vrubel. Basing simultaneously on the impressions of Vrubel’s “Girls Against the Persian Carpet” and on the picturesque language of Uzbek ornaments, the artist depicted the piercingly vibrant world of the East (in the case of Volkov, it’s Central Asia). The work is “woven” of small strokes of pure colours, which make it similar to a mosaic.
