Portrait of the photographer-artist M.A. Sherling

author

Yury Annenkov

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (Russia).

The work demonstrates first-class skills of working with painting and graphic techniques. Transmitting the character’s appearance, Annenkov masterly combines classical painting techniques with elements of futurism and cubism. Accurately conveying the facial features of the person depicted full-face, the artist shows his profile in the form of a shadow. The Cubist background of the portrait is surprising in its design – the viewer sees such an element of the interior as an electric lamp, and at the same time fragments of urban architecture, in particular, the recognizable silhouette of the Eiffel Tower.
