Portrait of Ruth Ford

author

Pavel Tchelitchew

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

Ruth, like her brother Henry Ford, a surrealist poet, made close friends with Pavel Tchelitchew in Paris and inherited his property. In the portrait, we can see an elegant young girl. The author conveyed her tender beauty and childlike spontaneity. The eight hands supporting the translucent veil framing Ruth depict the letters of her name as it can be expressed in the American sign language. After the artist’s death, Fords tirelessly propagated Tchelitchew’s art, holding exhibitions, publishing albums and articles about him.
