Portrait of Auguste Renoir

author

Aristide Maillol

description

Mediums: bronze.
Location: the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (the USA).

At the beginning of the 20th century, the artist developed sculpture, which greatly simplified the grandiose forms of the middle and end of the previous century. Although, in general, Maillol did not join the avant-garde movements with his sculpting art, the portrait of the idol of many Post-impressionists, Auguste Renoir, is close in style to the new techniques of his fellow painters. Unlike other sculptures, the surface of the bust does not have perfect smoothness. The master respected by everyone is depicted recognisably. However, if you do not know the personality of the depicted person, he can be taken, for example, as a fisherman. Particularly impressive is the carefully focused look of the great Impressionist.
