description

The Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).

Oil, board.

From the 1930s, the paintings by the artist reflected a special orthogonal (direct, one-vector) structure into which the author inserted objects. In this work, these are different-sized ships, houses, a number of recognizable pictographic images (the sun, the moon and fish). This is a kind of plastic interpretation of the Universe: objects abound, invade space. They create a whole real world and, at the same time, a philosophy of being. In one of his numerous articles, the artist explained, “This is not a language parallel to reality but a representation of the world by the plastic equivalents of the author’s emotions and visions in his mind.” Torres used the theme of the port throughout his long creative career.
