Pink bows

author

Paul Delvaux

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Royal Museum of Fine Arts (Antwerp, Belgium).

One of the first surrealistic works of the artist, made in a characteristic style, which practically did not change throughout his career. Dark brown colours and mysterious nudes in a deserted square create a sense of mysticism and mystery. Huge bows make girls look like wrapped gifts, and their indifferent, unemotional faces look like masks. There are also other symbols beloved by the author: a human skull, classical architecture in the background and unnatural, as if electric lighting.
