author

Conroy Maddox

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

Briefly about the painting:

In the late 1930s, Conroy Maddox first visited Paris, where he met the artists and poets of the surrealist group. This painting was inspired not only by the real arcade in the capital of France, but also by the content of the essay by surrealistic writer Louis Aragon. Maddox wrote, “Aragon says that he walked without a goal, was waiting for something strange or abnormal that would allow him to see the new order of things.” Similar experiences and references to the works of famous surrealist Rene Magritte are also displayed in the work of the British artist.
