Papal Castle in Avignon

author

Paul Signac

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Dimensions: 92.5×73.5 сm.
Location: National Museum of Contemporary Art, Paris.

While working on this painting, Signac was impressed by the works of Claude Monet. Therefore, lilac and blue tones dominate in this work. In the right side of the painting, near the castle, we can see the Avignon Bridge, one of the most famous in France. Smears of different shades are arranged in such a way that the colors do not mix; this is typical of the technique of pointillism.
