Noon in Shahimardan

Alexander Nikolaevich Volkov

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the collection of the State Museum Association “Artistic Culture of the Russian North”, Arkhangelsk (Russia).

The artist visited the small mountain settlement near Ferghana Shakhimardan more than once. His painting “Morning in Shahimardan” was shown in the United States at an exhibition of Soviet art. The sunny noon, which he painted later, represents three toilers while resting. The women in national clothes, who took out simple food, look monumentally large against the backdrop of the mountains. The hot summer is expressed by hot colours and a gesture of a young Uzbek woman, covering her eyes from the blinding sun. As a magnificent colourist, the artist harmoniously depicted the blue clothes of the central figure as an accent “refreshing” spot.
