description

Mediums: watercolour on paper pasted on cardboard.
Location: Galería Vermeer (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

As in most paintings of the 1920s, Xul Solar addressed the theme of pre-Columbian Indians. In this painting, we can see a schematically depicted priest, who, obviously, is busy preparing some magic potion, and a warrior bowing to him. Numerous inscriptions, which the author also often used in his works, are made in a mixture of different languages. During that period, the artist became interested in studying the common elements of various dialects of the world in order to create his own universal language called “Neo-Creole”, and this hobby was also reflected in the paintings of Xul Solar.
