author

Nadezhda Udaltsova

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the State Russian Museum St. Petersburg (Russia).

The artist often used variations of the musical motifs typical of Cubists – apart from several still lifes, she created paintings devoted to guitar, piano, and violin. In this painting, the artist demonstrated his absolute mastery of the techniques and methods of “fragmenting” objects in such a way that they remained generally recognizable. He added significant for the style elements to the still life – inscriptions, numbers, notes, and watch dial. Even later, carried away by Suprematism, Udaltsova continued to create Cubist compositions, as she valued their inherent rigor of composition and clarity of lines.
