Джино Северини

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the museum of the Etruscan Academy of Cortona (Italy).

The painting symbolizes the artist’s complete departure from futuristic trends and his return to classicism. After the rough war years and creative experiments, Severini was searching for new ways to realize his talent in painting. Everything in this work, from the restrained colour scheme to the choice of the plot itself, is calm and quiet contrasting with his paintings created in the previous years. His return to classics turned out to be just a temporary phenomenon in the artist’s creative biography, and a year later he created abstract works in the style of synthetic cubism.
