Monument to M. Gorky

author

Vera Mukhina

description

Mediums: bronze.
Location: The square named after M. Gorky, Nizhny Novgorod (Russia).

Mukhina won the competition for the monument to A. M. Gorky in the city was named after him. A few meetings with the writer, whom she recalled as a “giant”, “a very big man”, “a real artist” settled in her memory. Vera made his sculpture the way Nizhny Novgorod knew the creator: in boots, with a braid and long hair folded back. At the same time, she emphasized the features of the “petrel of revolution” in every way – the wind threw back the cloak (the author saw her creation on the Volga slope), his hands were drawn behind his back, and his face was exposed to air and light. His facial expression is thoughtful, but his full of confidence look leaves an impression of power and faith in the future.
