The main idea of this painting is the passivity and monotony of human life, which turns people into soulless objects. The heroine of the painting is so much used to her favourite armchair that almost merged with it, becoming a part of the interior. Her face acquired the colour of the furniture upholstery, and her hands became similar to the arms of the chair. At the same time, strange things happen in the room – all objects come to life and begin to interact with each other, as if they have mind. The picture also contains one of the artist’s favourite characters – a tabby cat, which has access to each of these parallel worlds.
