Ivan Vasilievich Kliun

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Tretyakov Gallery. Moscow, Russia.

Briefly about the painting:

The objectless elegant composition was the artist’s attempt to solve coloristic tasks with minimal means. Kliun, who was fascinated by Purism a little later, appears here rather as a Constructivist, probably as a result of his communication with V. Tatlin. On the deep blue background, several thin “piercing” multicolored lines support the main element – a white semi-helix piercing a circle. The artist brought the irrationalism of the shapes to expressive laconism, giving the viewer the right to interpret the image as he wishes.
