description

The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the USA.

Oil paint, pencil, wax pencil, canvas.

The painting was painted after the artist moved from America to Rome and reflected his interest in antiquity and ancient culture. It is based on the old Roman myth about how Jupiter, turning into a swan, seduced the beautiful Leda. The artist depicted the heroes schematically, giving them ephemeral forms consisting of randomly arranged strokes and spots. From recognizable elements on the canvas, you can make out the window, phallic symbols, eggs and, possibly, the neck and wing of the Swan. In the lower right corner, the author placed a hand-written name of his work, which is also part of the canvas.
