author

Aleksandr Shevchenko

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (Russia).

Advocating the return of the status of the main thing in painting to easel art (in contrast to fashionable constructivism, which asserted the importance of its applied essence), the master found beauty in everyday life. The author depicted a working girl using subtle tonal relationships in muted colours. The master used both primitivism methods and Cezanne’s clear line to indicate the contours. Shevchenko did not fail to introduce the favourite motif of Cezanne into this everyday life plot; he was interested in Cezanne’s art in those years – juicy fruits are on white draperies.
