Impressions of the bombardment (shrapnel and grenades)

author

Luigi Russolo

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Portogruaro Art Gallery (Italy).

The theme of the war, in which the artist took a direct part, was reflected only in this canvas. Perhaps this is due to the fact that in the post-war years, Luigi Russolo almost completely moved away from painting and devoted himself to musical experiments. The composition in a simplified and schematic style reveals the very essence of the military confrontation, in which a person is like a small insect that has no way to decide its fate. The power of military weapons and human fear tear apart the picturesque plane of the canvas and make it look like a real battlefield.
