Brignoni Serge

description

Mediums: wood.
Location: private collection.

The figure of a man holding fruits in both hands is made of a single piece of wood of a warm ocher colour. The stylized image, created in the Paris period of his creative career, has both surrealistic and primitive features. At the same time, the violation of the symmetry of the body (characteristic shifts) makes one recall cubistic canons. The sculpture reflects Brignoni’s passion for African and Cycladic ancient art – a valuable Swiss collection attracted the attention of many Parisian art historians and artists. The statue was purchased by a private collector at the 2009 auction.
