Kiefer depicted Heliopolis, one of the oldest and most important cities of Mesopotamia, the “cradle of civilization”. He painted this picture after visiting brickworks in India. These bricks symbolize the endless process of the creation and destruction of everything in the world. The artist used brown paints, sand and some other materials.
