Hear the alarming bells

author

Ivan Marchuk

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

Briefly about the painting:

In an interview, Marchuk said that he did not name any of his early paintings created between 1965-1979. When there were already a lot of them, the name for the whole cycle emerged – “The voice of my soul”. He explained, «I did not invent it – they, these parables, appeared themselves». Causing fuss rather by the national theme, tragic sound and complete discrepancy to social realism than by the technique, the paintings were sent to America. The author was not sure that he would survive as a painter, and wanted to save his creations. In 1991, at his exhibition in Detroit, he met the one to whom he handed over his canvases. Only three of them returned to the creator – the rest were sold. In general, the early period of Marchuk is now highly appreciated on the art market.
