author

Naum Gabo

description

Mediums: steel.
Location: Tate Gallery, London (the UK).

The early work of Naum Gabo dates back to the period when he was closely associated with Moscow Constructivists, who developed new scientific theories and mastered industrial materials. The method, called the “stereometric construction”, became the main one in the artist’s work for many years. He sought to achieve form by connecting parts in space, rather than using a solid mass of any material for sculptures. Gabo stated that it is possible to build light hollow volumes that will look like multi-ton works. “Head No. 2”, made by the young artist, was later made repeatedly by the mature artist based on the preserved cardboard construction.
