Head exploding

author

Salvador Dali

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, UK.

The fragmented figures in this picture are rooted in Dali’s interest in nuclear physics. This head is similar to the head of Raphael’s Madonna. At the same time, the painting includes a dome of the Roman Pantheon with a falling stream of light and small fragments in the form of a rhinoceros horn or a nuclear weapon.
