Location: the Fogg Museum of Art Museums at Harvard University (the USA).

According to art experts, Modigliani created one of his earliest works in stone being inspired by the work of his teacher C. Brancusi, “The Head of a Girl” (1907). Several preparatory drawings of the beginning sculptor have been preserved; they show how his original concept evolved and how the plasticity of the whole work was achieved. In the drawings, the head of a young woman is crowned with a magnificent headdress or high hairdo. However, carving the model from stone, Modigliani chose a version without one or the other – therefore, the work resembles a decorative architectural detail.
