author

Gino Severini

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

During the First World War, the artist created some of the best works in the style of futurism. In these paintings, the author welcomes the war, because he perceived it not as a terrible disaster, but as a way to naturally cleanse a society, which Futurists called “hygiene of the world”. Severini masterfully combined his plastic searches in painting with the depiction of the events of his times. On the advice of his friend Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, the artist tried to “survive the war picturesquely, exploring all its fantastic mechanical forms”.
