Tatyana Glebova

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg (Russia).

The famous group portrait created in the 30s can tell a lot about the environment of Tatyana Glebova, her friends and associates. The large central figure in the portrait is Isai Braudo – the most important person for the artist; her friends are located on the sides; above all is an image of Pavel Filonov, the teacher and inspirer of Glebova. The author depicted herself in the form of the smallest figure in a niche, with a palette and a brush in her hands. It is interesting that the artist portrayed Braudo as two-faced, with the second hypostasis turned to her and playing the organ. Researchers suggest that this double image symbolizes Glebova’s love for music and her conscious choice in favor of fine art.
