description

Mediums: tempera, paper glued to the board.
Location: The Xul Solar Museum (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

The strict landscape with gray shades resembles ancient oriental graphics. Very calm cliffs hang over the smooth surface of the water; a steep staircase leads to the top of each of them. The stairs depicted by the artist can be interpreted as a symbol of spirituality, to achieve which you need to go through a steep and challenging climb. The only human figure depicted in the lower-left corner of the picture is at the very beginning of this complex and winding path. The book in her hands symbolizes wisdom and knowledge, and the lantern symbolizes someone’s ability to break through darkness and despair on a long journey to his goal.
