Female head and table (Spanish woman)

author

Архипенко Александр Порфирьевич

description

Mediums: plaster.
Location: The Center of G. Pompidou, Paris (France).

In addition to standing figures, Arkhipenko turned to the relief genre in the early period of his career – their two-dimensional character is also based on a cubistic analysis of objects. Exhibited in the Golden section of the La Boétie gallery in 1920, the work is a synthesis of portraiture and still life. The objects are placed in geometric planes and stand out with their relief on the background. In the still life, the author included a fan, a mantilla comb and other objects that explain the other name, “Spanish Woman”, indicated by the artist himself. The relief was made in bronze in 1958.
