Equivalents for the megaliths

author

Paul Nash

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Tate Gallery, London (the UK).

Briefly about the painting:

The painting shows a group of large objects, and the attention is sharply focused on two columns and two geometric objects in the foreground. The artist wrote that the third dimension was an important aspect in his works in the 1930s. In addition, Paul Nash used his observations in the painting – in the background is the Avebury stone circle (Mount Silbury Hill), on the ridge of which one can clearly see the artificial step-like construction of the Neolithic period. The author found a way to enter the space of the viewer and depict the urban equivalents of modern megaliths.
