Dance. Pointless Composition

author

Alexander Rodchenko

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow (Russia).

Briefly about the painting:

Rodchenko’s early work was completed at a time when the Russian avant-garde worked in cubo-futuristic style. It is not known whether the author of this composition was familiar with such a branch of Cubism as French Orphism, but the vertically oriented painting is very similar to the works of this style. Vivid color solutions, a huge number of small details that turn the canvas into a mosaic do not allow you to see the figure conceived by the author in the middle of the composition. In the future, Rodchenko’s paintings became rather minimalistic than overloaded with decorative elements.
