Composition TA

author

Carlo Carrà

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The collection of Jucker (Milan).

This canvas is a transitional stage between Carra’s cubist experiments and his appeal to metaphysical painting. Here the influence of the primitivism of A. Russo and the sophistication of Italian Quattrocento are noticeable. From this picture, the artist began the search for a balanced, strictly organized composition, where all objects obey the invisible order and at the same time violate all the painting and physical laws. It is noteworthy that the author used letters in his work. These symbols, having real weight and shape, in fact do not carry any semantic load, but only reinforce the sense of semantic incompatibility of the depicted objects.
