1995
Mediums: oil, acrylic, canvas.
Location: the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, New York (the USA).
The work consists of two separate parts of the same size. Their colour scheme and the plot content sharply contrast with each other. On the left side is a smiling young woman in the company of several men; on the right is a room turned upside down, there is an image of a wedding dress in a photo frame on top of it. Like in other works of David Salle, the theme of gender identity is examined here, when a woman must meet the expectations of society related to marriage and family. The heroine of the work has a different opinion; she boldly challenges the community with her uninhibited pose and mysterious smile.
