Clairvoyance

author

René François Ghislain Magritte

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

This is a self-portrait, in which the artist depicted himself at work. As in his other paintings, Magritte used a paradoxical technique, combining a realistic image with an irrational plot. The clairvoyance of the protagonist is that he sees an egg in front of him, but draws a bird on the canvas that has already hatched, thus looking into the future. The plot of the picture is on the eternal philosophical theme that an egg or chicken existed before, and opens up a new look at reality, which each person, passing through his inner world, modifies at will.
