Cell (Eyes and Mirrors)

author

Louise Bourgeois

description

Mediums: marble, mirrors, steel, and glass.
Location: collection Tate Modern (London, the UK).

One of the works of the “Cells” series, which the artist began to create in 1989. As a material, Bourgeois used metal structures in the form of cages, inside of which she placed various materials, objects, and even furniture. Each of these things is used for a reason, and carries a particular meaning and emotional load, while the presence of a person is limited by metal bars. The central place in the Eyes and Mirrors installation is occupied by huge marble eyes, which, reflected in several mirrors, create strange perspective distortions and an eerie atmosphere.
