Having decided to engage in creativity professionally, Calder entered the League of Art Students in New York and worked as an illustrator at the newspaper National Police Bulletin to earn a living. He had to create sketches from the life of the local circus for two weeks, and its special atmosphere inspired the sculptor to create a mini circus. Calder’s circus is a mobile arena with miniature artists, made of wire, leather, metal, wood and other various materials. All the big top elements were mobile, and the author himself guided them, playing two-hour performances in front of the audience. There are several videos of the original performances of the circus of Alexander Calder.
