Bust of Annette IV

author

Alberto Giacometti

description

Mediums: bronze.
Location: The Tate Modern Gallery (the UK).

This work is a part of a series of eight busts, the model for which was the wife of Alberto Giacometti, Annette Arm. The sculptor was surprised to find that each time he saw her differently. The artist commented on the fact that the surfaces of the sculptures are poorly made, “It would be rather irrational to spend a lot of time trying to copy the head exactly, than just live”. The roughness of all mature works by Alberto gives them expression and a special charm.
